Similar to one-year plans, increasing natural gas prices also put upward pressure on the average price of two-year, fixed rate plans in the first half of 2013. This steady climb subsided in July, and prices remained closer to the early 2013 average for the rest of the year. Now, the same increase that all other plan lengths are seeing, due to further increases in natural gas prices, can be easily ovserved in one-year offers. As the year progresses, we will be tracking the recent spike, and now decline, of two-year plans to see if 2014 ends up being more expensive for these plans compared to last year.
This chart shows the average price for a two-year, fixed-rate plan (excluding 100 percent green energy plans).
Average monthly costs as shown are based on a customer who uses 12,000 kilowatt-hours per year. See "About the Index" in the right column to learn more about how the Index is calculated.
