If you've created a new TrueCost profile or logged in recently, you've seen our new Facebook options. These are becoming popular across the internet and we think they'll be helpful for TrueCost users as well.
These new options:
Give you more choices
Reduce the number of username/passwords you have to remember
Reduce typing, espcially important now that so many of you are viewing on phones and tablets
How does it work?Registering
If you're already logged into Facebook and want to create a TrueCost profile, you click the button and authorize Facebook to send us your contact information (name and email). We use that information to create your account and move you to the next step (picking your address).
If you aren't already logged into Facebook, you'll be asked to enter your Facebook login. The cool thing about this step is that you're stepping over to Facebook and logging in there. TrueCost does not see your Facebook password. Logging In
Once you have a profile set up, you can click the Facebook option on our login page. In this case, Facebook is verifying your email address, we match it to a TrueCost profile, and we accept that as authorization. Just like registration, if you're not logged in to Facebook, you'll be asked to do that as part of the flow.
Even if you registered previously and set up a password for your TrueCost profile, you now have the choice to use that password OR to have Facebook authenticate you. If you create your profile with Facebook initially, you'll always need to use that option since there won't be a TrueCost password on your profile.The Exception
There's one scenario that won't work: You created a TrueCost profile with an email address that's different than what you use for Facebook
. In that case, what comes back from Facebook won't match. In that situation, you'll have one extra step to "link" your accounts where you'll need to login to TrueCost with your TrueCost password, and then you'll have an option to connect to your Facebook account.
