Comments: Good company overall, though with minimum usage fees and some strange billing numbers, the bills are higher than advertised (4.1/kWh turns into about 12.2kWh if you don't meet the minimum usage requirements). However, despite this, they are consistent and I haven't really had any issues. The website isn't the easiest to use, but it works once you get the hang of it. Solidly average.

Comments: SWPL is literally the Spirit airlines of electric companies- I think they get the majority of their fees with a month or two of insanely high service, combined with the fees when the poor suckers cancel service. If you are able to have a good plan with them, I'm sure they are fine. I was moving into a new apartment after living in an "all bills paid" situation for the past 5 years. I did not realize just how mind-boggling complicated setting up your electricity plan could be. I know better now; but, I stupidly managed to sign up for the most expensive plan possible, it seems. Multiple calls to them finally let me see just how badly I had messed us up. My 650 sq ft apartment that I keep at 74 degrees had a first month bill of $148 for 780 KW(Granted, this did include an activation fee of $54 from TNMP- but that is a whole nother story). The second month of 1150 KW is $119. I have called three other companies in Dallas (Reliant, TXU and Veterans energy); without even trying hard, I was able to get quotes of $45, $56, and $63 for the same 780 kw useage. I made the move to Reliant today. I called back Southwest and told them point blank I needed to know how to cancel service with them; there was no asking why, no retention offers, no customer service of any kind other than to remind me of the $175 cancellation fee that would occur. I will happily, HAPPILY pay it. Not only will I make it up in a couple of months, I will do anything to never have to communicate with this company again. I worked in call centers for 5 years and know there is almost always something that can be done to hold onto customers. How a company can manage to charge this high, in this competitive a market, and not do anything other than mail bills and say "Pay us, please." is mind-boggling to me. The one star is because I have to leave 1, but also for their customer service professionalism. It seems to be a very small company; in my half dozen calls or so, I got the same person two different times. They were always polite and courteous; it's too bad this company is utter ****. I will do everything I can to recoup my ETF by convincing anyone and everyone I can to flee from this company.

Comments: No problems with the service per se, but their web site is terrible, and I often received emails instructing me to go look at my statement, but the statement would never come up. I'd get a follow-up email saying to ignore the previous email, because they were having a problem. Never could figure out how to actually view my statements online.

Comments: I'm 3 months into my term with SWPL. They're good w/ communications. Interaction with their website also good. One surprise though -- and this is my bad because the plan details told me it's an 'auto pay E plan' -- I paid my first bill on their site but manually entered a payment by card and then was hit w a fee. So, you have to set up automatic pay straight to CC or you lose your discount.
